School health screenings

THAT HELP CHILDREN LEARN, GROW, AND THRIVE

Healthy children are better able to learn, grow, and participate in school. Healthe Kids partners with schools to provide convenient health screenings during the school day, helping identify concerns that may otherwise go unnoticed.

What to expect

Why are school health screenings so important?

Children grow quickly, and their health can change from year to year, even if they see their pediatrician regularly.

School health screenings help identify concerns that may affect a child’s health, development, or ability to learn, including vision, hearing, blood pressure, growth, and other health indicators.

Many children who are identified through school screenings would not otherwise receive these evaluations because:

  • Annual well-child visits may not include every screening.
  • Near vision and hearing screenings are not routinely performed during many annual physicals.
  • Busy schedules, transportation, and access to care can make additional appointments difficult for families.

By bringing these screenings directly to schools, we make preventive healthcare easier, more accessible, and available to every child.

Every screening is conducted by a professionally trained healthcare team, including Registered Nurses.

Depending on your child’s age and the screening event, services may include:

  • Height, weight, BMI, and when appropriate, waist circumference
  • Vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and when appropriate, respirations
  • Vision screening (distance and near vision)
  • Hearing screening
  • Head-to-toe health assessment, including ears, throat, teeth, neck, heart, lungs, and spine

No invasive procedures are performed, and parents do not need to be present.

After your child’s screening:

  • You’ll receive the results.
  • If follow-up with your healthcare provider is recommended, we’ll explain why.
  • Every child receives a small goody bag with items such as a toothbrush and toothpaste.

If additional medical care is recommended and cost is a concern, families may be eligible to apply for financial assistance through First Hand Foundation.

OUR GOAL

At Healthe Kids, we believe healthy students are better learners.

Our mission is to remove barriers to preventive healthcare by bringing quality health screenings directly into schools—helping identify concerns early and connecting families with the care they need.

Convenience

Screenings happen during the school day, so parents don’t need to miss work or attend.

EARLY DETECTION

Identifying concerns early gives families the opportunity to seek care sooner.

Many health concerns (including vision, hearing, and elevated blood pressure) can go unnoticed because children don’t always recognize or report symptoms. School health screenings provide another opportunity to identify concerns early and connect families with appropriate follow-up care when needed.
